[FUN_Mail] Neuroscience Program Requesting Reserach Input

Another option not mentioned below is to create a course for a group of
students (rather than one-on-one mentoring).  In such a course a small
number of faculty supervise a group of students.  If you have a large
number of students you can organize them into groups that work on a single
project (they should get more done in a semester than an individual, so
they can have a more complex project than individuals).  I know of a number
of institutions that do this when programs have research requirements, but
too few faculty to do one-on-one mentoring for all the students.  In our
Marine Biology Program (I know it's not neuroscience), our students have
three ways of meeting the research requirement:  1) Directed Study
(one-on-one mentoring), 2) Senior Thesis (big term paper that sometimes has
lab research component), and 3) Marine Biology Capstone Research (the group
course).
