[FUN_Mail] Neuroscience Program Requesting Reserach Input

Dear Sara
Our Neuroscience students at the University of New Mexico are part of
the Biomedical Sciences Graduate program. They do mandatory rotations
which helps them finding a lab that they feel comfortable in and that
fits their research interest. Available graduate positions for working
towards their PhD candidacy depend on the PIs (extramural funding,
departmental support). Simalar mechanisms are in place for masters
students.
We currently have no undergraduate program focusing on Neuroscience,
and recruit mostly from the Biology and Psychology department.

But I guess the question of research experience for undergrads is
really the same for all disciplines in life sciences . Usually students
seek out labs and proof themselves as helping hands and move on to be
entrusted with a small project of their own.

Best
Martina

Hi Sara,

Our program at Davidson requires an independent study in the
Concentration. Our majors through the Center for Interdisciplinary
Studies requires a thesis. The program is small so we have been able to
accommodate student demand (2 to 4 senior majors a year).

Good luck,

Julio

Dear FUN Colleagues,
Loras College, a small liberal arts college, just approved a
Neuroscience major last September. My colleagues and I are in the
process of creating courses and are seeking input from current
Neuroscience programs about their research requirements. Do any of your
current Neuroscience programs require research experiences or
internships? If so, how is it arranged in your curriculum? How do you
ensure that all of your students will find research experiences or
internships? Thank you, in advance.

Best,
