Sara,

Washington College requires all students, regardless of major, to complete a senior capstone project. Students in our Behavioral Neuroscience Concentration in Psychology have two options: a theoretical review or a research thesis. Typically, all students have a laboratory research project that they complete as a team within a course Prior to the senior project. We typically have 40 or so students each year (we have ~ 30 seniors/year) who are co-authors on poster presentations at the Eastern Psychological Assoc Meeting and Several at SfN. We encourage all students to seek credit bearing internships coordinated by us during the the school year and summers. We benefit from being close to DC....NIH, Baltimore and Philly. But students have found opportunities far afield and abroad... Many are found online and through our Global Studies Office. The Best students tend to do the innovative exploration of opportunities that expand our offerings and attract the interests of other students.

Perhaps you could host/establish a regional undergrad neuroscience conference similar to several established in the east and Midwest!

My colleagues and I are in the process of creating courses and are seeking input from current Neuroscience programs about their research requirements. Do any of your current Neuroscience programs require research experiences or internships? If so, how is it arranged in your curriculum? How do you ensure that all of your students will find research experiences or internships? Thank you, in advance.
