In order to compare apples to apples one good way to display the numbers
is graduating seniors (rather than declared majors as that may include
sophomores, juniors, and/or seniors but can vary from one part of the
academic year to another) and to also include the number of seniors (or
undergrads) at the college so one can get a percent of graduating
seniors.  I remember that someone did this in the past for a number of
colleges (but don't remember who...so if you are out there, fess up and
correct me if I am remembering incorrectly) and they came up with a
conclusion that generally about 3-4% of seniors sign on for a
neuroscience major.  Oberlin's neuroscience major has been around a long
time (more than 35 years) and currently is at about 6%....but may be
growing again. So be ready to be inundated with majors!
