Hi Amy Jo -- I'm looking forward to this meeting. I love the idea of
informal conversations, and I'd be interested in two that you have not
listed: (1) New Profs comparing notes - workshop for junior faculty who are
in their 1st, 2nd, 3rd, or 4th years as faculty; (2) "Introduction to
Neuroscience" courses -- best practices, labs, what's working well -- focus
on teaching neuroscience material to diverse biology competencies.

I'd like to hear and learning about both these topics, but since it's
informal, I'm happy to facilitate!

See you at mGLuRs?

> Good afternoon all,
> This email includes 2 important pieces of information:
> 1. The link to Abstract Submission for the FUN Social and Poster Session.
> 2. A request to those that might like to lead informal professional
> development sessions at the FUN booth during SfN.
> Details:
> 1. Any FUN member (regular or pre-faculty status) in good standing (that
> means dues are paid) can sponsor one submission for the FUN Social and
> Poster Session. In addition, Institutional members can sponsor one
> submission, but it is up to the home institution to determine which
> project. We have a total of 175 board faces, with 20 reserved for Travel
> Award winners, which leaves 155 to be filled on a first-come, first-served
> basis. Your student does need to be registered for the SfN meeting to
> participate in the FUN Poster session, but does not need to be presenting
> their poster during the main conference.
> Please be sure that your student can attend the session, Sunday, November
> 12th 6:45-8:45 pm at the Renaissance Gand and Central Ballroom before they
> submit. Please be sure that you have paid your dues before having your
> student submit, it saves us lots of emails! The application will remain
> open until September 29th, or until we have 175 total submissions.

> 2. For the past several years, I have organized informal professional
> development conversations in the FUN booth during the SfN meeting. These
> have generally been well attended and seem to be helpful. Our topics in
> the past have included: JUNE, Nu Rho Psi, the Equipment Loan program, how
> to land a PUI job, transitioning from post-doc to teaching, how to assess
> or start a Neuro program, life as teaching faculty at an R1. That is not
> an exhaustive list, and should change with the needs of the FUN membership.
> So, this comes with 2 requests — 1. given those topics, would you like to
> lead an informal conversation on one of them (you need not prep much, just
> be there to facilitate and share your notes with Exec if there are
> initiatives mentioned), 2. is there something you want to talk about that
> is not on that list. Either way, email me directly,
> ajstavnezer at wooster.edu.
> Here’s hoping the semester has gotten off to a great start for all,
> Amy Jo
