Position Description

The Department of Biological Sciences at Carnegie Mellon University seeks applications for the Director of Undergraduate Programs. This is a 12 month special faculty appointment with growth potential for the candidate to enter into the teaching track. The successful candidate will serve as the primary academic advisor for all undergraduates within the department of Biological Sciences.  The candidate will be responsible for helping students through one on one meetings with course scheduling, defining their academic and career goals and identifying research opportunities. The candidate will work with faculty committees to assist with planning and implementing new program initiatives and student activities.  Initially, the Director will teach the undergraduate colloquium course, co-teach the first and junior year seminars of the Mellon College of Science core curriculum. Further teaching duties will be determined by the department. An appointment at the Special Faculty level is expected with a start date no later than September 1, 2020. Appointments at a senior level will be considered.
Qualifications

Ph.D. in an academic discipline is required. Two or more years - experience counseling college-level students is preferred.

Clear evidence of administrative capacity.

Excellent interpersonal communication skills and organizational skills, including the ability to prioritize work and handle multiple tasks simultaneously.
