A full-time laboratory technician position is available in the laboratory of Marise Parent in the Neuroscience Institute at Georgia State University (sites.gsu.edu/parentlab). This is an NIH grant-funded position for 12 months with the possibility of renewal pending additional funding and satisfactory performance. We are looking for a highly motivated and proactive individual to conduct and troubleshoot laboratory experiments investigating the brain mechanisms that control eating behavior in rodents and how these neural controls are impacted by obesity and other pathological conditions. The laboratory technician will be responsible for laboratory maintenance and safety and supporting the general laboratory needs of postdoctoral fellows, graduate students, and undergraduate students. The position requires a master’s degree in neuroscience or related field, at least 2 years of prior laboratory research experience in neuroscience, rodent behavior, or cell/molecular biology, excellent interpersonal, trouble-shooting, organizational, and communication skills and previous experience collaborating with other scientists. Preference will be given to individuals with previous experience with stereotaxic surgery and/or neural manipulations in conscious, freely moving rodents. Starting salary range $47,476 - $55,000.
