Subject: [FUN_Mail] Open lesson webinar - November 12

Hello FUN members,

As part of its mission of open science, the Allen Institute shares all of its data freely for anyone to use in their research or teaching. We’re running some webinars this year to help faculty use open data for distance learning labs (as well as to enrich in-person labs).

On November 12, we’re hosting a session on how to use a free and open lesson plan using one of these data resources, “Defining cell types by their electrophysiology,” by Ashley Juavinett of the University of California, San Diego. This lesson teaches concepts related to single-cell electrophysiology, definitions of cell types, and Python data analysis in a completely online lab exercise. It uses open electrophysiology data from human and mouse cells from the Allen Cell Types Database.

Details and free registration are available at alleninstitute.org/virtual-lab-webinars.<https://nam12.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Falleninstitute.org%2Fabout%2Feducation-outreach%2Fvirtual-science-lab-webinars%2F&data=02%7C01%7C%7C4e974dc805c149bb0d6f08d86c8b7a5a%7C32669cd6737f4b398bddd6951120d3fc%7C0%7C1%7C637378693606474200&sdata=D1et4ETCRDkBKyjcPzkl3jBaE0DWSxFY79drPCXMLFc%3D&reserved=0> You may have seen me or Ashley present at the FUN workshop in August – this is new content not seen in those presentations!

If you have questions about where to start with using Allen Institute data resources in your class, this is a great way to jump in. You’re also welcome to email me with questions about finding the best resources to fit the needs of your class (or your research!).
