The Department of Physiology (PSL) at Michigan State University (MSU) seeks two engaging instructors with a strong interest in undergraduate education who are trained in neuroscience or a closely related biomedical discipline. These are full-time, fixed-term (non-tenure track), academic year (9-month) positions. Appointments are for one academic year and are renewed annually based on funding and performance.

Specific duties include: 1) working with Neuroscience Program faculty to develop and implement lecture, seminar-style, and/or discussion-based neuroscience courses, 2) teaching multiple sections of an established core laboratory course required for Neuroscience majors, and 3) playing an active and integral role in the broader mission of excellence in undergraduate education within the Neuroscience Program and PSL department including committee service, outreach efforts, and innovation in the classroom. Instructional duties for these faculty positions include working with the teaching team (composed of other faculty, academic and technical staff, graduate teaching assistants, and undergraduate learning assistants) to develop and teach upper-level neuroscience courses, carry out instruction of a variety of neuroscience laboratory modules (including electroencephalography, drosophila behavior, sheep brain anatomy, and crayfish neurophysiology), supervising laboratory staff and learning assistants, assessing student learning (including writing assignments), and reporting grades.

The successful candidates will actively collaborate with current faculty and MSU informational technology staff to advance MSU’s strong commitment to undergraduate STEM education. The Department of Physiology recognizes that only an academic and organizational culture that actively seeks out and strengthens diverse voices and perspectives among its members results in true excellence. The Department of Physiology is committed to creating an inclusive teaching and learning environment and is particularly interested in candidates of all backgrounds who, through their teaching and/or service, will contribute to the diversity and excellence of the academic community.
