The Roman laboratory in the Department of BioMolecular Sciences at the University of Mississippi in Oxford, MS is seeking a Research Associate to assist with experiments into the molecular and neural basis of behavior using Drosophila as a model system. As a research associate you will have the opportunity to be involved in most aspects of the research process, from experimental design to data analysis and publication. You will also have the ability to supervise the activities of student workers. Duties may involve - performing behavioral experiments and Drosophila genetics, establishing new behavioral paradigms, using new programs to collect and analyze behavioral data, and overseeing the maintenance of the Drosophila stock collection and the production of the Drosophila culture media. The selected candidate will work closely with, be trained by and report directly to Dr. Roman. This position is eligible for benefits.
Job Responsibilities

1) Perform a variety of technical duties (e.g., DNA/RNA extractions, preparation of solutions, preparing Drosophila culture media) associated with conducting Drosophila neural and behavioral genetic experiments, 2) use computer and software programs to collect and analyze data and create figures for publication, 3) maintain organized laboratory notebook, 4) assist in training new personnel, 5) maintain and organize Drosophila stocks,  6) Drosophila husbandry including setting crosses and collecting desired genotypes.
Minimum Education/Experience

B.A/B.S. or higher at the time of start AND some experience related to the above duties.
