Dear Colleagues,
The Iowa Neuroscience Institute at the University of Iowa and the
Interdisciplinary Graduate Program in Neuroscience is seeking your
partnership in recruiting Spring 2023 graduates to the second year of the
* iDREAM* *post-baccalaureate program in neurosciences*. This program is
targeted to students who are graduating from undergrad institutions without
R1 research opportunities (i.e. no PhD programs in the biosciences).
The iDREAM (Iowa: Diversifying Research Experiences and Mentorship) program
(https://idream.sites.uiowa.edu) is a 2-year paid research
experience established this year with federal funding from an R25 grant
through the National Institute of Neurological Disorders and Stroke (NINDS).
The iDREAM program offers a rigorous introduction to research, near-peer
mentorship from Iowa neuroscience PhD students, and tuition-free access
to both undergraduate and graduate courses.
This program is for students:
• who are graduating from undergraduate institutions this spring that do
not currently offer PhDs in the biosciences
• who want to pursue a PhD in neuroscience
• who are seeking more research experience to help strengthen their grad
school applications
Students who meet the NIH criteria for underrepresented
<https://diversity.nih.gov/about-us/population-underrepresented> status are
especially encouraged to apply. (This includes broad consideration of
socio-economic factors, growing up in rural areas, and many other
experiences.) Students must be a citizen or a noncitizen national of the
United States or have been lawfully admitted for permanent residence.
The list of mentors includes faculty members who have completed
the Culturally Aware Mentoring workshop as part of Dr. Angela
Byars-Winston's NIH NRMN U01. More information can be found online:
https://idream.sites.uiowa.edu.
*Applications are due by Thursday, Feb. 1, 2024.* Reviewing will begin on
February 5. However, applications may still be accepted up until March 1,
2024.
We welcome interested students to join us for a virtual* information
session on Thursday, Jan 11, 2024 between 2-3:30 p.m.* Current iDREAM
students and faculty will be available to answer questions.
