I assign Neurobiology: A Functional Approach
<https://www.amazon.com/Neurobiology-Functional-Approach-Georg-Striedter/dp/0195396154/ref=sr_1_4?crid=KA0GZV5O63RA&keywords=georg+striedter&qid=1684431513&sprefix=georg+striedter%2Caps%2C173&sr=8-4>
by Georg Striedter as recommended text in one of my intro neuroscience
classes (for non-biologists). It's a bit expensive and I don't cover every
page, so it's hard to make it a required text. But, it has excellent
figures that help make complex ideas easy to digest, has an easy, casual
cadence in the narrative, and doesn't have errors in neuroscience. It's a
great book.

Someone pointed out to me that I could tell students to use the

At Skidmore, we use Breedlove's "Behavioral Neuroscience"
textbook,
which
is now up to its 10th edition just coming out now. This book
works well
because our intro neuro course has no pre-reqs and is populated
by a
mix
of future majors but also non-majors. Breedlove is definitely
accessible,
but still goes through all of the content we're interested in
covering.
There are e-book options in addition to the hardcover that offer
time-limited online access to content for a reduced price.
Personally, we use Purves and Nicholls for our two 200-level
courses at
Skidmore - I agree with Michael that they are a bit more advanced
than
I
would want for the 100-level. I always wish Purves had more
e-phys
content,
and that Nicholls was better organized and didn't focus so much
on the
visual system.
All the best,
-Chris
