The Department of Psychology at Northern Illinois University (NIU) seeks applications for a full-time tenure-track assistant professor in neuroscience and behavior. Applications are invited from individuals that use modern neuroscience or physiological techniques to investigate the basis of developmental, cognitive, or social phenomena. Successful candidates are expected to demonstrate the potential to establish an independent research program that will provide translational learning experiences for students and will attract extramural funding. In addition, the candidate is expected to contribute to teaching undergraduate and graduate classes within their area of expertise. Finally, the candidate will be involved in mentoring students through capstone, MA, and PhD projects. Experience working with diverse populations of students as well as evidence of inclusive and engaging teaching practices are highly desirable. Additional responsibilities include service to the department, college, university, and community.

This position will be supported by a peer mentoring program, competitive start-up funds, access to shared facilities/equipment, dedicated lab space, and a staffed vivarium.

The Psychology Department is in the College of Liberal Arts and Sciences and includes twenty-four full-time faculty members. In addition to being one of the largest undergraduate majors on campus, the department offers Ph.D. degrees in Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Psychology, Developmental Psychology, Industrial-Organizational Psychology, Neuroscience and Behavior, School Psychology, and Social Psychology. The Psychology Department will serve as the tenure home for the appointment.
