Description

The Swarthmore College Department of Psychology announces a tenure track
position at the Assistant Professor level to begin in the fall semester,
2024. We seek a Cognitive Neuroscientist with both 1) a strong commitment
to teaching and 2) an active research program that focuses on the neural
basis of cognition (broadly construed), and that can engage diverse and
talented undergraduates. Teaching responsibilities will include
intermediate and advanced undergraduate courses in cognitive neuroscience,
a course in research methods, supervision of student research projects, and
possibly an introductory psychology course. The candidate will also have
the opportunity to participate in the vibrant Cognitive Science and
Neuroscience majors.

The candidate will have independent research and office spaces in the
College’s new Singer Hall (

which houses the Biology, Engineering, and Psychology Departments. They
will also have access to shared departmental resources including a
state-of-the-art EEG lab with multiple Electrical Geodesics, Inc. (EGI)

Qualifications

Must have Ph.D. in Psychology or a related field in hand by August 2024.
Some teaching experience is preferred. The strongest candidates will be
expected to demonstrate a commitment to creative teaching and an active
research program that speaks to and motivates undergraduates from diverse
backgrounds.

research interests, a current CV, and reprints or preprints of recent work.
The teaching statement should describe the applicant’s interests in
teaching at an undergraduate institution, previous teaching experience, and
approach to teaching and mentoring students from diverse backgrounds. The
research statement should describe the applicant’s program of research
(including research interests, recent and current research, and anticipated
areas for future work) and its potential to engage undergraduate students.
Relevant experience mentoring students on empirical research should be
described in the teaching and/or research statement. In addition,
applicants should arrange for three (3) confidential letters of
recommendation to be submitted.
