Good afternoon all,

The Department of Psychology at The College of Wooster invites applications for a tenure-track Assistant Professor appointment to begin Fall 2024. We seek a candidate with research and teaching interests related to some area of cognitive or applied cognitive psychology, including but not limited to perception, psycholinguistics, decision-making, cognition and technology, or reasoning and problem solving. The candidate will be expected to develop courses that cross-list with the Cognitive Behavioral Neuroscience major. We are especially interested in a candidate who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy and diversity of the academic community through culturally relevant pedagogy and a commitment to ensuring equitable outcomes for racially and ethnically minoritized and marginalized student groups.

The yearly teaching load is 5.5 courses. Within the Department of Psychology, this teaching load is usually fulfilled through two courses each semester, including a research component to one of these courses, and credited supervision of 5 senior undergraduate students in a 2-semester Independent Study (I.S.) research project (a graduation requirement for all students). Each of our faculty also contribute regularly to the College’s First-Year Seminar program, and our courses serve The College’s core curriculum, which includes general education requirements in Social Justice; Power, Privilege, Race and Ethnicity; and Global Engagement.

The College of Wooster is an independent college of the liberal arts and sciences with a commitment to excellence in undergraduate education. We enroll a racially, socioeconomically, and culturally diverse student population of approximately 2,000 undergraduate students, of which 6% identify as Latinx; 9%, as Black/African American; 4%, as Asian; 4%, as multiracial; and 61%, as white. Fifteen percent (15%) of our students are studying on international visas. Twenty-five percent (25%) are Pell-eligible and 11% are first-generation college students. We are interested in hiring faculty who can contribute to the intellectual vibrancy of the community through culturally relevant pedagogy, curricular diversity, intercultural fluency, and a commitment to ensuring equitable outcomes for racially and ethnically minoritized and marginalized student groups.  The College has committed to ongoing and strategic initiatives to foster diversity, equity and inclusion, both historically and through ongoing strategic planning. As one example of our efforts, and through a process of a formal vote of the faculty, all academic departments partner with our Vice President for Equity, Inclusion, and Diversity for ongoing training every academic year. More information about the College’s commitments is available at: https://wooster.edu/about/diversity/.

Qualifications
Candidates must hold a Ph.D. in Psychology or related field at the time of appointment and should demonstrate potential for or experience with (a) inclusive teaching practices and (b) developing a dynamic student-centered research program.
