*Position Description: *
New Mexico Tech invites applications for a full time, tenure-track
Assistant Professor of Psychology to begin in August 2025, in the
Department of Communication, Liberal Arts, and Social Science (CLASS).
Ability to teach introductory psychology, research methods, and social or
developmental psychology is desired, as well as upper-level courses in the
candidate’s areas of experience. The teaching load is 3-3, one section of
which is a 1-credit laboratory course section or a senior seminar. Research
should involve undergraduates. Area of research specialization is open.
Possible focus areas of value might include social psychology, cognitive,
developmental, cross-cultural, experimental, industrial-organizational,
counseling, clinical or invertebrate neurophysiology.
Applicants should have a doctorate in Psychology, Neuroscience, Education,
or a closely related field by the time of appointment. The successful
candidate will have a strong interest in teaching psychology at a STEM
institution; significant potential for successful research, publication,
and other scholarly/professional activities; and a commitment to service
and administrative tasks such as academic advising, Institutional Review
Board, teacher training, and/or program assessment. The candidate hired
will have the opportunity to contribute to both BA and BS degree programs
in Psychology, an interdisciplinary BS in Biomedical Sciences, as well as
to help support an interdisciplinary Master’s program in Public Engagement
in Science, Design, and Communication. We seek a collaborative individual
who can engage as a strong citizen of a multidisciplinary department, look
for synergistic opportunities, and advise a variety of student research
projects. The committee will be interested in candidates’ views on
diversity issues, and their experience relevant to teaching psychology to
students from a broad range of cultural backgrounds.
Department Description: New Mexico Tech is a public 4-year technical
university that is also a Hispanic-Serving Institution (HSI). The
Department of Communication, Liberal Arts, and Social Sciences (CLASS)
houses a diverse array of disciplines including psychology, science and
technology studies, English, foreign languages, philosophy, history, art,
and music. CLASS Faculty are also involved in numerous transdisciplinary
collaborations with colleagues across STEM disciplines. Research space may
be available in an invertebrate vivarium on campus.

*Regional Attractions: *New Mexico Tech is located in Socorro (population
~8500), in the scenic Rio Grande River Valley of central New Mexico, with a
relatively low cost of living for the desert southwest, and the campus is
situated in a residential area. The nearby Magdalena mountains and numerous
desert canyons provide excellent opportunities for hiking, climbing, and
mountain biking. The Bosque del Apache National Wildlife Refuge, located
just south of Socorro along a major north-south flyway, offers some of the
best birding in the United States. Socorro is about an hour south of
Albuquerque with its many attractions and convenient airport access.
