Greetings from the NSF HSI National STEM Resource Hub.

We are offering our final virtual workshops in February and March on neuroscience and on generative AI in the classroom.  We hope you can join us online for these timely events where friendships and collaborations have been forged over the past five years and where your professional expertise will be enhanced. Leaping Forward: Advanced Practices in Generative AI

  *   Kevin Yee, PhD University of Central Florida (https://fctl.ucf.edu/about-us/staff/kevin-yee/ )
     *   Educators are catching up to the promise of AI, but it’s not always clear how to implement these tools in our individual disciplines. Offered by Dr. Kevin Yee, This workshop is for faculty who understand how to use AI but are seeking creative ideas for actual deployment in their classes. Participants will be able to preview dozens of examples before the workshop, then participate interactively during the workshop to adjust their own assignments for an AI-infused world. We’ll also tackle the thorny problem of teaching fundamentals even when the software can do everything. Finally, we will put AI to work making faculty life easier with writing syllabi, lesson plans, and other documents.

New Tools for Neuroscience Pedagogy and Research

  *   Sam Sober, PhD, Emory University (https://biology.emory.edu/home/people/bios/faculty/sober-sam.html)
     *   Dr. Sober and his team of motor systems neuroscientists focus on understanding how the nervous system controls complex movements. They have developed an innovative new technology (“Myomatrix arrays”) for precisely measuring the electrical signals that the brain uses to control muscles. Myomatrix arrays can be used for both original research projects and to teach students about basic nervous system function.  Their NIH-funded center (CAMBER; https://camber.emory.edu/) supports the FREE distribution of the Myomatrix arrays to interested faculty. In this workshop, Dr. Sober's team will describe the uses of these arrays for educational and research purposes and connect interested faculty to CAMBER, with the goal of developing collaborations that support faculty from the HSI-STEM community.
