Hi Michelle,
Congrats on the grant! I see Valerie is also part of your group, so it's great to see your successes. Our university is undergoing a major review and revision of teaching effectiveness, including student evaluations. Do you have data that I could/should share with our committee, yet? Or is it too early in the process?
Best,
-Judy O

Hi Kristen,

I won’t be at SFN in person this year (I’m doing a virtual poster) but I wanted to say “hi”. It sounds like you are doing amazing (no surprise there)! I thought I should also let you know that my friend Sarah Cavanagh and I were able to secure a RCN UBE grant! You had inspired me to apply!

You can check it out here, if you are interested:

Hi everyone,

I have two items to bring your attention to, specifically for colleagues interested in beginning, or already using, EMG in their research.

  1. I’m part of a NIH/U24-funded center (“CAMBER<https://protect.checkpoint.com/v2/r01/___https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://camber.emory.edu/__;!!K543PA!MvcVtwNtk2zsPN9CCG4xBRZ4oHg7_gGA7xfmCK0f0j076SZIc6EGVZoxaqG-4GruXD_Zs0hJAFKlieP6Q7wrjElUzlA$___.YzJ1Ondhc2hpbmd0b25jb2xsZWdlOmM6bzo2ODA5YWY3Y2RjYjRiNzNhZWE0NmE2MmE0NGNjZTg2Njo3OjljY2M6ZmZmNGQ4MWFiZDczZGExODdjZWUwYzJiOWY3ZjQzODNlZDQ0YmI3YzI2NzBlZGMwZWFkZDA1MmRkYTY1YjE2YjpoOlQ6Tg>”) that creates flexible multi-electrode EMG arrays (called Myomatrix arrays<https://protect.checkpoint.com/v2/r01/___https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://camber.emory.edu/technology/index.html__;!!K543PA!MvcVtwNtk2zsPN9CCG4xBRZ4oHg7_gGA7xfmCK0f0j076SZIc6EGVZoxaqG-4GruXD_Zs0hJAFKlieP6Q7wrUoUL5ds$___.YzJ1Ondhc2hpbmd0b25jb2xsZWdlOmM6bzo2ODA5YWY3Y2RjYjRiNzNhZWE0NmE2MmE0NGNjZTg2Njo3OmZmNmQ6NjYyMmY1NDJkZjYzYzFjOGM2NDdiY2VjNzAwZTU5ZjdhMjYyZjE4ZjRlNWVlZWIwOTgyMjcyMTNjODdhMDIwNTpoOlQ6Tg>). These arrays are currently provided for free to the neuroscience community. If you happen to be at SFN 2024 in Chicago, please stop by Booth #1869 to see these arrays and talk with myself or other CAMBER team members on how to integrate these arrays into your research or for educational purposes.

  1. The NIH has released this Notice of Intent to Publish<https://protect.checkpoint.com/v2/r01/___https://urldefense.com/v3/__https://grants.nih.gov/grants/guide/notice-files/NOT-NS-24-104.html__;!!K543PA!MvcVtwNtk2zsPN9CCG4xBRZ4oHg7_gGA7xfmCK0f0j076SZIc6EGVZoxaqG-4GruXD_Zs0hJAFKlieP6Q7wrZlRgoUA$___.YzJ1Ondhc2hpbmd0b25jb2xsZWdlOmM6bzo2ODA5YWY3Y2RjYjRiNzNhZWE0NmE2MmE0NGNjZTg2Njo3OmY0N2Y6NGE0NmExMmRhMWFjMWY3OGJkYmEzZTg1YWJjMDI1MTk5NmZhZjFhODUyMDA3ZGIwZmRiMGYyMjNiZDYyMjAwMTpoOlQ6Tg> called “Promoting Equity through BRAIN Technology Partnerships”. It is a R34 granting mechanism to fund partnerships between U24 supported investigators (like CAMBER, with the Myomatrix arrays) and investigators at institutions that historically have not been major recipients of NIH support.

A few more details from the program officer:

As a R34 mechanism, the budget is 225K/year and 450K total over 3 years.

The grant application comes from the investigator at the under-resourced institution and the U24-supported partners can be listed as a sub-award

This grant is for ‘preparatory’ projects so no preliminary data is required

The allowable costs are still being worked out but likely to cover travel and training, time for both the PI on the grant and for the U24-funded partners, student/trainee participation, reagent costs and some equipment, though no big ticket items.

NOFO should come out in early Oct. and the first round of applications would be due in early 2025.

Please reach out to me (kfrenze at emory.edu<mailto:kfrenze at emory.edu>) if you have anything you’d like to discuss.

Best,

kristen
