Hello FUN Friends!
We hope that April is sunny and bright and that those aspects of the world are keeping you afloat through this always busy month!
We are hosting 3 more FFF meetings before we take a break for summer – please see the descriptions below and join us as often as you are able!
Next Friday – April 25, 4 pm (ET)
Did you see the SfN call for abstracts that just came out?
Well, at this FFF, we will discuss inclusive practices for mentoring students through attending their first scientific conference. Just like many areas of academia, both in-person and virtual conference attendance have their own "hidden curricula". Thus, active demystifying of academic conferences helps make these experiences more visible, equitable, and impactful for our trainees.
Join Liz Leininger for a short presentation and discussion centered around the article "10 Simple Rules for Attending Your First Conference<https://journals.plos.org/ploscompbiol/article?id=10.1371/journal.pcbi.1009133>" (also attached). In addition to taking away concrete strategies for mentoring trainees through conferences, we can also crowdsource ideas and advice from participants' own experiences.
Starting in May, we will offer a 2-part series on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning
Friday, May 30th, 4 pm (ET)
We will discuss publishing on the Scholarship of Teaching and Learning. This conversation is open to all – those with some ideas, those who know nothing about this area, and those with papers under review! We initiated this conversation during the SfN Professional Development session, continued it during an FFF session in November and now will be joined by members of the Journal for Undergraduate Neuroscience (JUNE) Editorial Board.

Friday, June 27th, 4 pm (ET)
We will discuss the process of obtaining ethical approval (through your institutional review board or IRB) for the data that you collect for the Scholarship for Teaching and Learning study. Though some neuroscientists use IRB processes for their research, many of us are new to working with human research participants and this session will demystify ethical approval through discussion with experienced colleagues.
