Dear FUN colleagues,
The Department of Biology at Ursinus College invites applications for a one-year Visiting Assistant Professor in Biology to join the faculty in Fall 2025 for the 2025-26 academic year. The Department seeks an individual who is trained in neurobiology (or neuroscience) and can contribute to courses in cell biology and genetics. Ursinus College is a highly selective, independent, co-educational, residential liberal arts college of approximately 1500 students located about 25 miles northwest of center city Philadelphia. With a diverse community of students, it is an expectation of all faculty to contribute to the inclusion, engagement, and success of all students.

Responsibilities will include teaching upper-level elective courses, including molecular neurobiology (BIO/NEUR/BCMB-433W), and teaching in introductory cell biology (BIO-102) lecture and laboratories, and genetics (BIO-201) laboratories. Applicants may conduct research with students in their field of neurobiological expertise as part of the position, but this is not required. In such cases, dedicated lab space will be provided, along with access to shared facilities, including a staffed vivarium, in our newly constructed Innovation and Discovery Center.
With a diverse community of students, it is an expectation of all faculty to contribute to the inclusion, engagement, and success of all students. The Ursinus College faculty is a diverse community of teacher-scholars dedicated to providing transformative experiences for a diverse student body in a highly reflective process embedded in our core curriculum. It is the expectation of all faculty members that they will be similarly reflective.
Applicants should include a cover letter as well as additional documentation to describe (1) their commitment to, philosophy of, and previous experiences with undergraduate teaching in a liberal arts setting, (2) their experience and/or commitment to supporting an inclusive community and (3, optional) a research program that will ideally involve undergraduate collaborators. Attach letter of application, curriculum vitae, and transcripts. Please provide the names and contact information for three references. Recommendations may be requested later in the application process. Review of applications will begin immediately.
A Ph.D. is required by the August 2025 start date. Teaching experience is strongly preferred. Post-doctoral experience is a plus.
Inquiries for these positions are welcome and should be directed to the Biology Department Chair, Denise Finney (dfinney at ursinus.edu<mailto:dfinney at ursinus.edu>).
